What Is an Apicoectomy?
An apicoectomy is a type of endodontic microsurgery performed when infection persists in a tooth that has already undergone root canal therapy. While some cases can be managed with non-surgical retreatment, others require direct access to the root tip where the infection is located. During an apicoectomy, we make a small incision in the gum to access and remove the infected root tip and surrounding tissue. The root end is then sealed to prevent reinfection and promote proper healing.
